Battery Electric
Electricity can be used to power all-electric vehicles and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles directly from the power grid, producing no tailpipe emissions. Electricity used to power vehicles is generally provided by the electricity grid and stored in the vehicle’s batteries. Home recharging of electric vehicles (EVs) is as simple as plugging them into an electric outlet. Many states also have public access electric outlets at libraries, shopping centers, hospitals and businesses. See the map below for the many charging stations across the country. New Jersey's EV Incentives
With 42% of the state’s GHG emissions stemming from the transportation sector, New Jersey has a goal of electrifying the transportation sector by 2050 - focusing first on light-duty and short-range medium & heavy-duty vehicles in environmental justice communities. Incentives for both vehicles and charging infrastructure from various agencies including the NJDEP, NJBPU and NJEDA and utilities like Atlantic City Electric and PSEG are in place to support this transition. This concise summary from the NJDEP helps keep track of the various in-state programs.
